7 pressure transmitters you must know!

Hey hey hey! Here I am again with an exciting new list for you today! Throughout April we’re creating content related to pressure transmitters, including their use in level and flow applications. You’ll also see our usual product reviews and comparisons, where we cover all the features to help you figure out if the devices suit your next application.

However, you have a bunch of different brands and devices on the market. Which should you scale out? It depends on your needs, of course. You may want one with great local support, or international identity, or other criteria I can’t think of off the top of my head. It’s hard to list all the reasons you might choose a device.

With that in mind, I created a new list of outstanding pressure devices on the market from the most common vendors worldwide. If you think we missed one, then let us know in the comments, and we’ll include it in the next list or another article.

Deltabar FMD72 – Endress+Hauser

Usually, when you have a level device that uses a diaphragm seal or seal pot, you may run into problems with ice, clogging, leaks, and more. However, now you can avoid these problems with the Deltabar FMD72 from Endress+Hauser.

This transmitter has two electronic sensors for high and low pressure.  The sensors send digital values to the system to calculate the pressure, level, volume, or mass of your liquids. Using a cable to connect the sensor to the transmitter lets you install the transmitter in a better place for visualization and setup through the local display.

Each sensor has an accuracy of +-0.005 percent and the system up to 0.07 percent. It also comes with different process connections and a temperature range of the transmitter from -40 to +125 degrees Celsius. Last but not least, you get a bunch of certifications for explosive areas and hygienic installation.

Rosemount Wireless Pressure Gauge – Emerson

Maybe you didn’t think that a traditional manometer could be updated to align with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) concept. Emerson Automation Solutions flies in the face of your assumptions with the Rosemount Wireless Pressure Gauge. It could use a better name, but it comes with some good options.

This standard device has a wireless digital connection built in to allow external monitoring of the process information and health of the device. It creates a good balance between old and new to satisfy even the fussiest of operators – traditional manometer and local indicator paired with wireless data transmission.

You have different options, such as gauge, absolute, compound, and vacuum. Moreover, the accuracy goes up to 0.5 percent with a measurement range up to 4000 psi. It uses wirelessHART and has a battery lifetime of up to 10 years.

CPG1500 – WIKA

Here we have another example of how to bring the manometer to another level. The crew from WIKA have a digital pressure gauge which serves up more than just the pressure of your process.

The CPG1500 offers a digital display and bar graphs to visualize the process information, diagnostics, battery life, and setup. It has a proprietary wireless protocol for the datalogger and transmitter setup, with Bluetooth as a nice bonus.

It can also measure up to 1000 bar, with options like vacuum and absolute pressure ranges. It has an accuracy of up to 0.05 percent and a datalogger function that can register up to 50 measured values per second!

OPTIBAR PC 5060 C – Krohne

The 5060 C gives you a flexible solution with good features. It offers good resistance and reliability in different types of process, with its built-in ceramic measuring cell.

You can use the 5060 C from 25 millibars to 100 bar, and it also offers a flexible process temperature resistance up to 150 degrees Celsius. It even has seamless integration in the HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus (FF), and PROFIBUS PA protocols. Plus you can set up the transmitter through the local display or with a field communicator.

The VEGABAR 82 can measure vapors, gases, and liquids and has a high abrasion resistance with its built-in ceramic measuring cell. It has a flexible measuring range from -1 to 100 bar and a temperature range from -40 to 150 degrees Celsius.

You can get different types of wetted parts material, process connections, and approvals. It also comes with several integration possibilities in its PROFIBUS PA, FF, analog, HART, or Modbus protocols. Furthermore, the display has built-in Bluetooth that lets you set up using your smart phone, tablet, or laptop.

SITRANS P500 – Siemens

We already reviewed this product, so I’ll summarize. The P500 offers high accuracy, up to 0.03 percent, and stability, up to 0.05 percent. You can find a measuring range to fit your process, and it allows local configuration through its push buttons, so you don’t need a handheld to set up.

Compared to the others pressure transmitters, its integration falls a little short, with only analog and HART. If you want a digital protocol like FF or PROFIBUS, you’ll need to keep shopping.

STD800 – Honeywell

We also reviewed the STD800. It has an excellent display with all the necessary process data and device diagnostics. You can also set it up locally without a field communicator using its three push buttons on top.

The STD800 gives you its standard accuracy as 0.035 percent and offers an option of up to 0.025 percent. It’s pretty flexible to integrate too, in its analog, HART, FF, and proprietary protocol to connect to your control system. Furthermore, it has plenty of certifications for different processes.

As you can see, you have lots of nifty pressure transmitters that can work in a variety of applications.
