Automation engineer salary

Automation engineer salary

Today’s topic will interest many people, especially students. Aspiring automation engineers hear a lot about skills you need, fields you can work, and so on. But why do all the experts skip how high an Automation engineer salary is? You need to know this when looking for a job! You have to know what a good offer looks like! Or maybe for now you just want an idea of how your studying will pay off. Either way, you should know.

So we here at Visaya we did some research so you can get a rough idea of how much an automation engineer can earn. Websites such as PayScale, Indeed, SalaryList, Glassdoor, and SalaryExpert helped us research the job title “automation engineer.” Checking all these platforms gave us a more accurate range than checking just one. We also looked into the salary difference between a person with no experience (just graduated with a bachelor’s degree) and an engineer with a few years of experience. We checked the job title “senior automation engineer” to find the ranges there too.

Okay, enough talk for now. Let’s see the numbers!

Average automation engineer salary in the U.S.

Some of the platforms we used only gave the average wage in the U.S. Therefore, we’ll divide the research between the U.S. and other countries.

PayScale says that in the U.S with no experience, the salary of an automation engineer can vary from 53 to 86K annually. (In case you didn’t know, that K stands for thousands, and these figures are in U.S. dollars.) The average lands around 68K annually.

The other platforms didn’t allow us to enter years of experience in a quick search. So the results came up a bit higher than those we found at PayScale. SalaryList, for example, had an automation engineer earning around 76K a year, and Glassdoor had 69K. SalaryExpert estimated 82K a year, so look into the companies that SalaryExpert checks!

These numbers differ from site to site, but it’s fairly safe to say that the averages sit around 70 to 80K a year. Of course, experience, technical skills, and additional education can also influence your salary. This just gives you an overview of the results from searching for “automation engineer” salaries on all these platforms.

Some average salaries outside the U.S.

PayScale lets you look for the average salary of a job title in any country in the world. We picked Germany, Brazil, and Canada to compare the average wage in different countries. These numbers should give future engineers from non-U.S. countries an idea of what their salaries should look like after they graduate.

An “automation engineer” with zero years of experience in Germany can earn around 50K euros a year. The same input for Canada gave us 51K Canadian dollars yearly. Brazil gave us a surprise, though! The minimum and maximum numbers were waaay too far apart, from 9K to 159K Brazilian reals a year. Really, Brazil? However, the average number made more sense, 48K a year.

Senior automation engineer salary

After all that, we went back to the same platforms and looked up “senior automation engineer” to check out the salaries of very experienced automation engineers.

In the U.S., according to PayScale, a senior automation engineer salary can vary from 77K to 131K yearly, with the national average being 102K a year. When we used the same search criteria at Indeed, SalaryList, and Glassdoor, they nearly matched PayScale. We found 110K on Indeed, 100K at SalaryList, and 103K from Glassdoor.

We also checked other countries. In Germany a senior engineer generally pulls 62K euros a year. And in Canada you can make around 91K Canadian dollars annually.

Knowing how much you should earn can help you find a good position in the job market. It gives you a basic idea of what to say when an employer asks you about salary expectations in a job interview. It can also help you understand appropriate compensation if you already have a job and think you’re underpaid.

However, remember that this quick survey only provides averages and not even all of them. If you want a better idea of how much YOU are worth, you need to put your own information into these search engines. Best of luck on finding your worth!
