Hannover Messe 2017 – Second day #HM17 #VisayaHM17

Second day of #HM17, gone! We had a great day. I saw the finished booths and got a chance to chat with old colleagues. Of course, we’re beat. But the work doesn’t stop, even at the hotel! We need to prepare everything for you!

Impressions

The fair was impressively organized. From guided tours of the booths to the shuttles ready to ferry you from one pavilion to the next, all the processes looked smooth. Even getting food! You don’t waste much time waiting for your meal, although the chow line at the opening was longer than the one at the fair!

I tried to cover a bit of everything, from companies large and small, to give you feedback and short explanations about their tech. The fair has way too many devices to see, and sadly most had “look but don’t touch” written all over them. If you ask me, letting users interact with devices improves a brand’s image. In fact, booths that had virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) glasses had lots of visitors, which supports my point.

The glasses also showed a view of the industry’s future. Some companies obviously want to push the envelope. But a lot of this tech has yet to become more than a concept with other vendors. You could say the same of most of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industrial 4.0 concepts presented at the 2017 Hannover Messe. Each company has its vision and solutions to improve user experiences; however, most work poorly with third-party devices.

Below I compiled the highlights of the day. Take a look and have a think about the outstanding technology at Hannover Messe 2017.

Highlights

1 – Check out this demo unit from the FDT Group. Talk about seamless integration! It looks better than many other brands, even down to the network components. Better still, you have the plant asset management system reading all data and accessing all devices remotely without any problems.

2 – The PROCENTEC crew are launching the new Atlas device. It monitors Ethernet diagnostics with the goal of avoiding unexpected downtime. And the dashboard lets you access the device through a tablet. You can watch the videos now up on the live page.

3 – IFM has a huge booth with many solutions for factory and process automation. We took a look at the IO-Link tech. The reps have a complex package, from flow meter to temperature transmitter. It’s a new protocol that promises to save money, and everybody likes that.

4 – Microsoft offers the exciting experience of using the hololens to interact with the devices. I posted a video of people testing it, but I need to do some more digging on it. However, you’ve seen companies competing in AR and VR glasses. What do you think about them?

And that’s it for today’s highlights! Stay tuned, because we’ll be back tomorrow with more updates.
