Hannover Messe 2017 – 5th day #HM17

Hey hey, another day done and gone #HM17! We left after the fourth day, but we collected a lot of notes and pictures to share with you. Are you enjoying the Visaya live feed? We ran through the entire fair to bring you as much of the event as possible and to keep you updated on the new tech there.

In fact, we saw a lot of great ideas to bring the industry to another level. I still have concerns about the hype we call Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). However, we’ll find the best ways to capture and use all the data we get from the field.

We had a fascinating chat with the reps for Microsoft Azure about partnerships and integration. They made it clear that theoretically you can integrate everything, and they even made it look simple. However, some companies don’t give access to all the data their field devices pull. If you can’t use it, why pull it? Hmmm.

SAP and other IT companies had similar approaches to cloud solutions. On one hand, we have brands like Emerson, Yokogawa, and Beckhoff using these third-party systems. On the other, you have companies building their own, also powerful enough to read all your field data.

Today’s highlights focus on companies with digital field protocols, the first step of the IIoT and Industry 4.0 concepts. You need digital devices to integrate with cloud solutions, and options for wireless communication on PROFINET or Ethernet/IP can help.

So take a look at some of these protocols and a good example of a calibration workstation. Enjoy!

Highlights

1 – Turck is stuffed full of all the experts and bits you need to create your fieldbus network. The TURCK booth had several networks and solutions set up to show how to increase your plant’s performance. The company’s huge portfolio has power conditioners, junction boxes, multibarriers, and more.

2 – Pepperl+Fuchs has a strong focus on wirelessHART solutions. SAP drives its IoT innovation by partnering with different companies, so Pepperl+Fuchs has joined SAP on this journey.

3 – I already mentioned our talk with the crew with ODVA, but I want to point out ODVA’s field devices that have Ethernet/IP built in or available through converters. You have a wide range of vendors!

4 – Endress+Hauser has a ton of experts and a vast and varied portfolio. Fortunately, that portfolio also has a wide range of digital protocols. Endress+Hauser consolidated its wirelessHART solution into most of its products as part of its IIoT strategy.

5 – Last but not least, we have a Brazilian company called PRESYS! Its president talked about its calibration solutions. PRESYS’s handhelds can simulate signals as well as read data from devices. It has a great workstation too. As a bonus, it has wifi for sending data to the software.

Conclusion

As you can see, we have so many options for you! You can find the right instrument for the right application no matter what you need.
