Energy management solution
If you want an energy management solution in your plant, then you need efficient devices. The gizmos in this list can run in many Energy management solution setups, are dead easy to install and use, and supply tons of data on your process conditions. So by mixing and matching them, you can build yourself a fantastic EMS.
If you have an new energy management project, you should consider one or all of these products. In no particular order, our TOP 5!
Note: This TOP 5 examines only features, not performance. If you’ve used this device, feel free to share your experience in the comments.
Proline Prowirl F 200 (Vortex)
This smart device from Endress+Hauser brings a lot of benefits for the end user. They even call it “the steam specialist,” and I believe it!
It has an integrated temperature sensor for mass and energy flow of saturated steam. Plus, this baby can withstand temperature shocks, water hammers, and heavy vibration! You can also get wet steam detection and measurement, which gives you the key to controlling the steam efficiency of your whole plant. Yeah, you want that.
Also, with the combo of sensor and pressure transmitter, the Prowirl F 200 can detect saturated or superheated steam to provide the proper setup. How does it do that? Who cares! Just use it! Just kidding, click here.

Rosemount 708 (Acoustic)
The 708 acoustic transmitter acts as a steam trap monitor. Usually, you have to verify steam traps manually, using a handle tool to check them one by one. And most of the time even manual verification won’t prevent problems.
Once you load this device into your system, it’ll monitor your steam traps constantly, which can really ramp up your plant efficiency. And as a non-intrusive transmitter, the 708 saves time and money with its super-simple installation.
If you want more on the 708, check the Emerson page.
FCI ST100 (Thermal)
We already reviewed the ST100 thermal mass flow meter from Fluid Components International. So you should already know this, but in case you don’t – you can use it in a wide range of gases and even have pressure and dual-element in the same device. Sweet!
Even sweeter: ST100s give you a bunch of different digital protocols to integrate all your goodies into the EMS, and a USB and Ethernet communication port to simplify setup. It also gives you tight accuracy and repeatability for a compressed air system, if you’ve got one of those.
Here’s FCI’s official word on the subject.
Siemens power meter
In an EMS, you also need to monitor the efficiency of your machinery, like motors and compressors. Siemens offers so many power meters with different features and communication, I couldn’t pick just one! You’ll have to, though, if you want to integrate the solution into your system.
You can have meters with bar graphs, color displays or just monitoring numbers. Siemens has both simple and fancy meters with a lot of useful data for insights on your machinery’s performance.

Rosemount Wireless Pressure Gauge
If you have points that need pressure monitoring, then a wireless meter can save money on installation and structure. The Rosemount Wireless Pressure Gauge (WPG) combines a pressure indicator in the field with wireless tech, so you can set new monitoring points wherever you want!
The gauge also provides an update rate of 1-60 minutes, and depending on your setup you can have up to 10 years of battery life. Best of all, this simple and flexible device gives you measurement options like gage, absolute, compound, and vacuum.
