To explain what is static pressure measurement, we first have to talk about the difference between total pressure, static and dynamic pressure. On one hand, total pressure defines the sum of static and dynamic pressure.
Often you can refer to it as stagnation pressure. It happens when the fluid flowing in the pipe stops; we call the force exerted the total pressure. On the other hand, dynamic pressure is the kinetic energy of the product flowing in the pipe.
How to measure static pressure?
Static pressure is the force exerted in all directions when the fluid stops or when you measure the force from the side of the pipe with the fluid flowing.
You can measure static pressure with a gauge transmitter installed on the side of the tank or pipe. You can also buy devices that measure static and differential pressure at the same time, using different sensors built in.
