Product Review: Autrol ATT2100
This week we’re reviewing two more non-mainstream brands. You should at least sniff the new options rather than sticking to the tried and true. You can go back to the old if the new don’t do it for you, but you never know, do you? The world changes in ways we never expect.
I tell you, these smaller companies bring all the basics your process needs, from accuracy to approvals. They wouldn’t make it otherwise. Of course, they may have limited protocols, inputs, diagnostics, or local support. But depending on your needs, you can still use them, and they may save you a buck or two.
Today, the crew from Autrol have come to play at Visaya! We have the ATT2100 to prod and squish into your new application. Let’s dive into the features and find the real potential of this device!

Whatcha got there?
The ATT2100 is not a high-end product with features that provide extra info about your device and its health. Nonetheless, you have enough data to run any process. If you want a plug-and-play device, then this one makes an attractive option.
Its design resembles most transmitters on the market. You get a robust housing but nothing new. Its local display keeps things simple, with two buttons below the identification plate. I prefer push buttons on the screen rather than below the ID plate, but you may not care.
You can use the display to check the process variables and alarms, but it’s so simple that you have to learn what each alarm means. It also has dip switches and jumper switches to select the fail mode, a workable but dated choice.
Speaking of dated, the device only has analog and HART for protocols. You can still apply the device in a large range of applications, but if you want a digital protocol, then keep shopping.
What can it do?
The ATT2100 can read the usual: thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), resistance, and millivolts. On the ordering form, you have an extra option called dual elements, which sounds promising, especially since the device has only one input. Anyway, because resistance and millivolts are universal inputs that will take various sensors, you can find this device can read different process variables. The ATT2100 supports RTDs with two, three, and four wires, then a long list of thermocouples. Its millivolts input supports sensors from -10 to 75 millivolts, and its resistance input goes from 0 to 340 ohms.
Your accuracy will depend on the type of sensor you choose for your application. For instance, the Pt100 with a range from -200 to 650 degrees Celsius will have a digital accuracy of +-0.17 degrees Celsius. And a type-N thermocouple with a range from -200 to 1300 degrees Celsius offers a digital accuracy of +-0.40 degrees Celsius. You can read the entire list here.
Why should I care?
The ATT2100 has a lot of flexibility. It comes with enough housing materials and approvals to cover many applications, including those in harsh and hazardous areas.
While it has no fancy features, it does have diagnostic data you can view on the display or through the HART communication. That data will help with troubleshooting. Of course, if you need a condition-monitoring system, then you should go for a high-end device with more insights.
The ATT2100 from Autrol is a simple but decent device. If you don’t need a digital protocol and your application doesn’t require many features, you need to take a look at this device.
