Whatcha got there?
In general, the design doesn’t have anything fancy about it, but that’s fine. You can’t expect much from a simple product, and it follows the Siemens style at least.
The Pointek CLS100 works based on the inverse frequency shift capacitance principle. Yeah, I know. It’s a mouthful and one of the more complex measuring principles. But basically, the device charges the probe electrode with up to 10 volts of direct current. Then, it discharges that accumulated charge and measures the charge/discharge times. A few more things have to happen to get you your numbers, but that gives you the general idea.
This device comes in three versions – integrated cable, standard enclosure, and fully synthetic.
What can it do?
As a level switch, the Pointek CLS100 fits in various industries and processes to provide a simple on/off control or overfill protection. You can use it in slurries, solids, foam, and more.
This device can generally withstand -30 to 100 degrees Celsius, although certain versions have a more limited range. It also has an insertion length of four inches or 100 millimeters.
You can install it in pipes and vessels with two different wetted materials, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The PPS can work from -30 to 100 degrees Celsius, and the PVDF will operate from -10 to 100 degrees Celsius. You can also get different process connection materials and enclosure materials. Finally, it can work in gauge pressure up to 10 bar.
Why should I care?
The Pointek CLS100 offers good value supported by a strong brand with years of experience in measurement and process control. The two-wire device has different process connections and approvals for general purpose or hazardous areas. When filling out the order form, you can specify whether you’ll use it in an overfill protection application or standard application.
The CLS100 is pretty simple but also flexible. You can deploy it in many segments, such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and hazardous areas.
The Pointek CLS100 is a solid level switch with good cost benefits. On the right, you can find similar products if you want to review other brands.
