Magmeter or DP meter in energy monitoring system industrial
We're implementing an energy monitoring system, and we can use either a DP wireless or a magmeter. What are the differences between these solutions?.
Energy monitoring system
In energy monitoring system, you need to focus on the total data rather than the moment-to-moment values. Now with a wireless system, you have to pay attention to the update time. For example, the wireless DP has a minimum update of one second and lifespan of less than one year.
You can find a lifespan estimate using the power module life estimator from Emerson. If you set a Rosemount 3051 in a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius with an update time of one second, the power module may only last 0.6 month.
Now, think with me! If you have your update time set higher than one second, you’ll lose flow measuring time swapping out power modules. That’ll skew your total at the end of the month, right?
However, if you go for a wireless magmeter, you need a local power supply or a solar panel. On the other hand, this flow meter provides a constant flow measurement. Set the update time for more than one minute, because the flow meter measures constantly and you can receive the total later.
Of course, you put a DP on a local power supply, but it requires 24 volts, where a magmeter uses 110-220 AC volts.
In the end, both solutions will give you the results you want, but you need to decide if the data delay will cause you issues at the end of the month.
