What is the PROFIBUS failsafe mode?
What is a failsafe mode in a PROFIBUS network? I've heard of it but have no idea what it means..
Expert’s answer: What is the PROFIBUS failsafe mode?
A simple mnemonic for you: The failsafe will keep your plant safe! Let me explain exactly what the PROFIBUS failsafe mode is because this is an important topic.
Should a bus or system fail in your plant, the failsafe mode will do its level best to set the process into a safe condition. So instead of things blowing up, everything should stop when a failsafe activates.
And when does it activate? Well, that depends on your setup. If you use analog communication, it will starts on 4 mA. In a failure, the signal will usually drop below that point. The same concept applies to digital communication; when signals drop to zero voltage, then you have a fail situation, and your failsafe should kick in to protect your equipment and employees.
