Some days ago I went for a stroll in Berlin with a strange looking device. I asked people what they thought it would do.
What we have here is a pH electrode, one if not the best tool we have to determine if a solution is acid or alkaline. But, let’s take a step back and define what is pH and its meaning, pH has a scale, with water with a value of 7 as a neutral solution, acid solutions have a pH value below 7 and alkaline solutions above 7. This value varies depending on the concentration of H+ ions in the solution. Strong acids release a higher number of H+ ions

This concept was developed by Søren Peder Lauritz Sørensen in 1909, he developed this concept while working at the Carlsberg Laboratory Copenhagen. J. C. Jacobsen founded the Carlsberg Laboratory, he wanted to promote the brewing science and share the secrets for great quality beer.
Breweries perform pH measurement and analyze the acid content in the source water, mesh, and wort during the brewing processes. The ph of the final product is also measured. At the end, the final pH of the beer is the one giving the final flavor and taste, and if you can keep track of that, this is how you make quality beer.
