Hey hey, what’s good? Let’s talk pressure, once the most important principle in the instrumentation world. Pressure transmitters don’t rule the roost any more, as its technology has more competitors now. However, you’ll still find traditional people who want to stick these transmitters everywhere.

Whatcha got there?
First off, the STD800 looks like every other pressure transmitter on the market. This is fine, because imagine a pressure transmitter that looks like a Coriolis flow meter. Yeah, we’ll skip that. It claims high performance for your pressure measurement, using piezoresistive sensor technology.
It has a decent design, with a bright LCD that shows most of your relevant process data and device diagnostics. You can choose bar or trend graphs to help you understand.
The differential pressure (DP) version of the STD800 offers two sensors, one for static pressure and one for temperature. A little compensation measurement can go a long way, right? I like this feature.
If you don’t have a handheld to set up the transmitter, no sweat! You have three integral buttons to set up the display without a handheld. But why don’t you have a handheld in the IIoT era? Come on.
What can it do?
Hmmm, let me think. I’m 100 percent sure that it’ll measure pressure. You might find new applications, though, like level measurement and flow measurement, because you have a square root option available. Nifty!
Next up, performance! The Honeywell crew claim an accuracy up to 0.035 percent for the STD800, but if you need more, you can get one with 0.025 percent. Hey, we like those kinds of options.
We need stability too, of course. The STD800 boasts up to 0.01 percent of its upper range level (URL) per year for – wait for it – 10 years! The transmitter also has fast response times, 90 milliseconds with HART and 150 milliseconds with FOUNDATION Fieldbus (FF) devices. Uh huh!
Why should I care?
You should care a lot! The STD800 has useful features for many different applications.
For integration, you have the analog, HART, FF, and Honeywell Digitally Enhanced (DE). This last one is a proprietary protocol, but who wants a proprietary protocol in the era of connectivity? No way. I miss the PROFIBUS protocol, though. PROFIBUS is relevant, so why not?
The modular design could make a difference to you, but other brands have that too. Nothing special, just a good feature. Or do you need a device for safety applications? The STD800 offers full compliance with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 and 3 requirements!
It has different process connections and materials for a wide range of applications. It also has different ranges, so you can find a range to fit perfectly in your process.
