Magmeter measurement from volume to mass

Flow Q&A

I have a magmeter in my process, and we have a volumetric flow measurement. Can we convert the measurement to mass units?

Expert’s answer: Magmeter measurement from volume to mass

Electromagnetic flow meters usually use volumetric flow measurement. But you can convert a magmeter measurement from volume to mass. However, the density of the process behavior factors in here. Do your density values change or stay the same? Because if you set up the meter and the density changes, you’ll get errors in your flow measurement.

Now some magmeters can receive 4-20 mA from another device. So, you can have a density meter send data to the magmeter.  And this allows the meter to correct the measurement based on the density.

You can find many such applications in mining companies. There, they usually have a gamma density meter sending information to the magmeter. But depending on your application, a Coriolis may solve the issue without a third-party device.
