Process values display LD400

Pressure Q&A

I have a Smar LD400 installed in my process but there are no buttons in the display. Is it possible to change the process values without a handheld?

Yes, in fact there is. But I must warn you, it is not the most intuitive way… The Smar LD400 has a local configuration system based on Zero/Span system with a magnetic tool. Which is basically a screwdriver with a magnetic part. If you are not familiar with this system don’t panic! I will walk you through it step by step. In the end you will see it is really not that complicated.

Set Up

Before we start configuring your device, you are gonna have to make sure that the jumpers on your electronic part are set properly. To do so access your mainboard and you should see two sets of jumpers like in the picture below.

Now lets change the units showed on the display. You will have to set the local adjustment jumper to “complete local adjustment” and the write protection jumper to “off”. You can see how to do so in the picture below.

Once both the local adjustment and write protection are set it is time to tackle the configuration part of the process. On the top of your device you will see two holes with the letters Z and S. The Z and the S stand for Zero and Span respectively. We will use with our magnetic tool in these holes to navigate the configurations of the LD400. From here the process is pretty straight forward. The Zero hole allows you to move around the menu, while the Span hole allows you to enter the selected menu.

To access the first menu just place your magnetic tool on the Zero hole and the main menu options should load. The menu items include Simulation, Range, Trim, Configuration, Operation and Quit. For the purpose of changing the unit displayed on the device navigate with the Zero until you get to Range and then hit the Span hole. Inside the Range menu there are 5 options. Once you reach the unit option press the Span again to access it. Finally, choose which unit you want displayed and press Span. Remember, the maximum value the device can display is 19999. So choose the unit accordingly. When you are finished setting up your unit, just navigate to the ESC option in the menus and you get back to the normal display.

Option 2

Another option is to do it through a handheld, which might be easier. However it is a matter of choice. ;p
