Protocols available – PROMASS Q 500
Our new project is using a PROFINET protocol. I was reading about using this kind of protocol on the field devices as well. Most of our flow meters here are from Endress+Hauser. Could you tell me which protocol is available for the PROMASS Q 500?
Expert’s answer: Protocols available – PROMASS Q 500
I have good news and bad news, which one do you want to hear first? Let’s start by talking about the Ethernet protocols in the field. Nowadays, you have a considerable increase in Ethernet protocols in the field, you can find EtherNet-IP, PROFINET, and some other proprietary protocols as well. Here I am referring specifically to field devices with these sort of protocols already built-in.
You can find flow meters from Endress+Hauser, Emerson and others with this sort of protocols already integrated in. The advantages to using a protocol based on the Ethernet is that the structure is easily integrated to the devices as well as the control system. Subsequently, the information gained is rich and easy to read.
Endress+Hauser has been working hard to bring more and more value to the new PROMASS Q 500 and it shows. Unfortunately at this date ( 8th June 2017) the transmitter 300/500 lacks eEthernetprotocols. If you want an Endress+Hauser device with this sort of protocol, you need to take a look at the PROMASS 100.
The digital protocol options available for the new PROMASS Q 500 are HART, PROFIBUS PA, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus RS 485. Now, if you want the simple output you have flexible options, such as the 4 adaptative output. That means you can change these 4 outputs for 4-20mA, Pulse, Frequency, Switch and so on.
Do What is Best for your Biz
Talk with an Endress+Hauser representative in your region to find out the deadline to launch the Ethernet protocol in the new transmitters. Otherwise, you need to use a PROMASS 100 or maybe switch to another vendor on the market, right? You need to figure out what’s the best options for your application.
However, if you reading this Q&A in the future -woahhh- find out if they have already launched an update by clicking on this link and building the order code of the device.
