Lower and upper range values of differential pressure transmitter

Flow Pressure

On my differential pressure transmitter, I have a range from 0 to 500 psi. We use an orifice plate for creating differential pressure. Maximum DP in our gas flow is about 200 psi but it's not fixed. Can you tell me how to determine the lower and upper range values?

Expert’s answer: Lower and upper range values of differential pressure transmitter

So, you want to know how to determine lower and upper range values of differential pressure transmitter? Gotcha! If you know the range of the flow transmitter and the maximum flow, you can calculate any flow value. Take a look.

Maximum flow: Max flow = K x √ΔPmax

Constant: K = max flow/√ΔPmax

Differential pressure: ΔP = (flow/K)²

Output (4-20 mA): Output mA = [(%ΔP) x 16 mA] + 4 mA

The orifice plate should have some information that can help. You can also contact the company that made the orifice plate for more details. These calculations give you the simplest ways to find the flow, ?P or the output. Your operator can provide the process values and maximum flow if you have trouble finding this data.
