Don’t worry there is no such thing as too basic of a question! It’s important to clear up any doubts you might have. Let’s first glance over some general information. Then we can get into the PROMASS Q 500‘s details.
The Coriolis flow meter is one of the best flow meters in most applications. The reason is pretty simple. The Coriolis gives you a high accuracy AND you don’t have an inlet and outlet runs requirement! This makes the installation a lot easier.
There are a number of liquid flow measurements a Coriolis is capable of. In terms of flow it can measure mass flow and volume flow. On top of that, it can measure temperature and density. Some models can measure additional information like viscosity. For gas flow measurements, mass flow and temperature are standard. You have a wide range of measurement capabilities with only one device.
The PROMASS Q 500
The PROMASS Q 500 has these same capabilities when measuring liquids and gas. However, more information is calculated internally by the device. It can measure mass flow, volume flow, and corrected volume flow. It can also measure density and reference density. Not to mention a few others including electronic temperature and totalization. Lastly, a couple more internal values.
Before you choose a Coriolis, take some time to review your other options. You may even end up saving your plant some cash. For example, consider measuring volume flow in a conductivity product… You can choose to scale out a magmeter. Then, if you steam, you can go to a vortex flow meter. Heck, you can even even use a multi-variable pressure transmitter. As you can see, if you are a creative engineer there is almost always another option.
There is just one last question you have to ask yourself. Is the price is feasible for my plant/project?
But then again, if the Coriolis will give you the best accuracy and performance… Why not?
