Where to measure temperature in a pipe?

Q&A Temperature

I need a new temperature sensor in my process. Where is the best place to install a temperature sensor in a pipe?

Expert’s answer: Where to measure temperature in a pipe?

Good question, it can be tricky to know where to measure temperature in a pipe. The temperature can vary depending on how much product you have in the pipe. Also, the temperature near the wall will differ from the temperature at the center of the pipe. So for the most accurate and consistent readings, we suggest you install your sensor in the center of the pipe.

You can do this type of setup in many ways. The manual from the manufacturer normally will show you the best locations as well as correct immersion length for better results, if not contact them!

Also, you need to consider the distance from the pump to the transmitter. That means you have to stay within a range to get a uniform profile of a single phase fluid.
